Polyether polyols for packaging materials
June 13, 2022
POP is a second-generation polyether polyol developed on the basis of general-purpose polyether, which is produced by a bulk polymerization of a vinyl monomer (such as acrylonitrile, styrene, vinyl chloride, acrylate, etc.) in a polyol. It's got. POP is composed of a dispersion of a vinyl polymer in a liquid polyol and a grafted copolyether, wherein the graft copolymer plays a significant role in the stability of the dispersion, the processability of the POP, and the performance of the final PU product.
POP is mainly used to prepare PU soft, semi-rigid foams and elastomers with high resilience and high load. It is mixed with high-activity, high-molecular-weight polyether polyols and can significantly improve the strength properties of PU products. And can overcome the shrinkage of PU soft molded products.
The research and development of POP abroad has been very active. New varieties are continuously available and play a significant role in promoting the development of the PU industry. At present, there are certain research foundations in China. These types of products are also included in the imported polyether grades. During the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" and "Ninth Five-Year Plan" period, the research on POP was deepened, especially the industrialization and application of high solid content POP, and some new series of varieties were developed.
Since the end of the 7th Five-Year Plan period, the Liming Chemical Research Institute has done a lot of work on the research and development of POP technology. It has developed POPs with non-volatile matter mass fractions of 20% and 40%, and has successively transferred several companies. The domestic PU industry contributed to the early use of POP. Shanghai Gaohua No. 3 Plant developed a GPOP-42 POP with a non-volatile matter content of 42% based on the transfer technology of Limingyuan. It has a low viscosity, good storage stability, can be used for the production of high-bearing block repentance, and can also be used to produce high-hardness seat cushions. After using the product in several units in Zhejiang and Shanghai, it is believed that the product can replace imported products. In addition, GP-102 POP developed by Jinling Petrochemical Company No. 2 Chemical Plant has recently won the New Product Award of Nanjing. At the end of 1998, it passed the municipal appraisal. The sales volume in the first half of this year has reached 2000T, making it the leading product of the plant.
In 1993, Tianjin Petrochemical No. 3 Plant and Tianjin University jointly developed and developed the second-generation POP product, TPOP93/28. Its performance and indicators both rank the leading position in China and can be used as an alternative to imports. In 1997, the plant also developed TPOPC-40 and TPOPC-28 series products with a non-volatile mass fraction of 40% and passed the experts' appraisal organized by Tianjin Economic Commission. TPOPC-40 has obvious advantages compared to previous products:
1 It has good foam latitude and can be applied to foam foam with different density;
2 At the same density, foam hardness can be increased by 1 level.
